About Chuck Woodfin
During high school and through college I was an avid photographer. Free time meant enjoyable hours behind the lens of a camera or in the darkroom processing my own photographs. Shortly after college graduation in 1975, my wife and I took teaching jobs in rural Alaska. In 1982 we secured teaching jobs in Anchorage. During those busy years of my career I spent most of my free time with my family enjoying camping, hiking, biking and cross-country skiing. Snapshots from those years show my family growing up and enjoying the outdoors.
After retiring in 2002, I rediscovered the joy of taking nature photographs. Nowadays I carry my camera whenever I’m outdoors. A digital camera has replaced my film camera. My computer has become my darkroom. I especially enjoy the creative control I have with digital photography.
In my work I strive to recreate a vivid experience I had with nature. My goal is to render the image as I saw it in my mind on the day I took the photograph. The result may not necessarily look “natural”. I want to share the visual impact, point-of-view and awe I experienced on the day I took the photograph
