The Iditarod

No event says "Alaska" more then the Iditarod Sled Dog Race. This race is by far the most popular sporting event in all of Alaska and draws people from around the globe to this event. This race begins in Willow and finishes in Nome, and has been going on every year since 1973. The total legnth comes to about 1,161 miles through blizzards, sub-zero tempratures, and terribly cold winds. Anchorage has a ceremonial start of the race, but the true start of the event begins in Willow.

The Contestants

Each Musher has a group of usually 16 dogs, huskies and husky hybrids being the most common type of dogs used.
