Hiking The Butte

I've been hiking the Butte for a very long time. Every Mothers Day for many years, we've made it a ritual to go on this hike. Located near Palmer and Wasilla, this hike is about a 45 minute drive from Anchorage. It is relatively steep, so it's a pretty moderate hike, but nothing too difficult that kids and adults can't enjoy. The distance is only 1 mile, and the elevation gain is about 850 feet, but for many people, this hike will tire you out.

On this hike, you'll be rewarded with a very beautiful view of Lazy Mountain, Pioneer Peak and Knik glacier At the top you'll be able to see far across Alaska since this area is mostly flat farmland. To anyone up for a short (but not too easy) hike in the Palmer-Wasilla area, I would strongly suggest giving this hike a try.

How to get there

Heading north out of Anchorage, You'll be on the Glenn Highway. Take the Glenn Highway turns to the Old Glenn highway, and you will get to the town of Butte. Take a left on Bodenburg Loop Rd. The trail head is at parking area.
