Ketchikan, Alaska
Ketchikan is a city of about 7,300 located in southeast Alaska. It's on an island with no road access -- in fact, you have to take a ferry just to get to the aiport as shown in the photo at left. (Remember the infamous bridge to nowhere? It would have spanned the Tongass Narrows to Gravina Island, giving access to the airport and allowing expansion on Gravina Island.) Ketchikan is served by the Alaska Marine Highway ferry system throughout the year and cruise ships in the summer.
